Review: The Ordinary Skincare

I first heard of The Ordinary skincare on a Facebook group that I'm apart of. There were a few women who mentioned it was a very inexpensive line of skincare and that the company tailored the products you need to your skin type and skin issues.I decided to give it a try!

About two months ago I reached out to the company and submitted a close up photo of my face. The email to send your photo to is support@deciem.zendesk.com I let them know my two main concerns were sun damage which seemed to become worse at the end of my pregnancy and into postpartum. I had a bit of "pregnancy mask" (or Melasma) you can find some info on that here. And my second concern was fine lines. A representative from the company emailed me back within a day and said I should use these products. I am going to cut and copy the email below so you can see their exact comments and the links to the products they recommended.

Hi Courtney, Thank you for reaching out to us! Based on the information provided, you may wish to explore the following:

  • The Ordinary “Buffet” A peptide serum with multiple technologies, including Matrixyl™ and Argireline™, in a base of 11 skin-friendly amino acids and multiple hyaluronic acid complexes to visibly target multiple signs of ageing at once. * It is best to not use Peptides in the same routine as the following products: Direct acids, LAA (L-Ascorbic Acid) and ELAA (Ethylated Ascorbic Acid). The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 A multi-depth hydration support serum that contains 3 hyaluronic acid complexes at multiple molecular weights and Vitamin B5.

  • The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA A concentrated serum with purified alpha arbutin; Alpha Arbutin reduces the looks of dark spots and hyperpigmentation. The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA A cream formula that offers non-greasy surface hydration that acts as a direct topical supplement of impaired NMF components; NMF are elements that keep the outer layer of the skin protected and well-hydrated.

  • The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil A daily support oil for healthy, hydrated skin; Rose Hip Seed Oil is rich in linoleic (omega 6) and linolenic (omega 3) acids as well as pro-vitamin A, which enables it to target signs of photo-ageing and several other skin conditions. Please see the suggested order of application below: AM

We recommend avoiding unprotected solar exposure, gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time and applying test patches first to see what works best for your skin. For more information on how to do a test patch, please visit our Patch Test Guide on The Ordinary website. I ordered all my products through Well.ca instead of their direct site. I believe the pricing is the same but I have just purchased many things through Well so I knew what to expect. Also if you are thinking about this line of skincare, the Well site has great reviews on each product.

So now that I have been using this skincare line for a few months, I'm sure you are wondering what the results are? Drum roll please.....I see zero difference in my skin!

I read all the reviews and many people rave about these products, which makes me believe they work well for some skin types. Or maybe my expectations were too high? I was pretty excited to try this line of skincare and I read a lot of the hype about it, so maybe I did think it would do wonders for my skin. Unfortunately I had no such luck! I will say that I liked the way the products went on and how they felt on my skin. I also liked the Rose Hip oil, but I have been using that type of oil in my bedtime routine for a long time. My go to brand is Kosmea and you can find it here. If I really look at my skin super closely, I can see that it's slightly brighter or a bit more "glowy" but overall I didn't find great results. I feel like you do get what you pay for. It's a pretty inexpensive line so if you do want to try it, I would encourage to to reach out to them via their email and see what they recommend. Maybe you will have better results than I did!
